  	Florence G. Taylor: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Tuesday, June 6, 2006 Deceased Name: Florence G. Taylor PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Florence G. Taylor, 89, of Platteville, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 29, 2006, at Gray's Nursing Home, Platteville. A celebration to honor her life will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, with recitation of the Kaddish memorial prayer at 7 p.m. Frank and Mary Steck, 1400 N. Second St., Platteville, will be hosting the celebration. The Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, is in charge of arrangements. She was born on Jan. 29, 1917, daughter of William and Gertrude (Kanter) Greenbaum. The youngest of three children, she helped her early widowed mother operate a grocery store in a small Chicago neighborhood. She enjoyed large-city life and the splendor it offered. She married Samuel Fischler in New York City, and moved with him to Los Angeles. He preceded her in death following 20 years of marriage. She later married Louis Taylor in Galena, Ill., where they lived and operated a business, Taylor House, in a historic mansion. There she applied her accounting skills and belief in personalized customer care to a gift store specializing in fine china and antique glassware. Her hard work and business acumen helped build a cadre of loyal customers from around the world. In 1989, she and Mr. Taylor retired to Platteville, where he died in 1993, and she lived the rest of her life. Florence delighted in preparing large gourmet feasts for family and friends. It was not unusual to find a cookbook in her hands later in life, even as her eyesight was failing. Lucky enough to be doted on by two loving husbands, she still encountered many challenges during her life. She was a strong and compassionate woman who faced each difficulty with resilience, grace and an eye-twinkling sense of humor. Surviving are a nephew, Michael Berg, and wife, Linda, of Bethesda, Md.; a niece, Joanne Brodsky, and husband, Mel, of Potomac, Md.; other nieces and nephews; and close friends, Mary Steck, Marilyn Yoose, Pat and Loretta Thym, Sheila Stephenson and Janet Hunt. A special thank-you to all the staff at Southwest Health Center and Gray's Nursing Home. Particular thanks to Dr. Sloan, Nancy Swailes, Dean Feldman and Sue Ann Sullivan for their devoted care and compassion.
